A researcher from Switzerland warns on the risk faced by iphone from its various applications available freely to download on internet. Free downloading of malicious software would eventually be a huge risk to the iphone because of the flaw in its design.

According to the a software professional from Swiss university of applied sciences, the iphone's application review process cannot stop the malicious softwares from getting distributed to many users world wide. These applications once downloaded, have complete access to the data, address book, location, friends list, activities etc of the user.

At Black hat security conference to be held on Wednesday, Seriot shall explain to all how a simple appearing application can be made to fetch and store the personal data of the user and thus send it over the internet without the user knowing about it. Such rogue application can be hidden within a simple looking software like a game. Seriot also points out that address book or contact list is easily readable without the users knowledge. It can read any data in any part of the iphone thus proving fatal for the users privacy.

In order to explain the working of a malicious application, seriot designed an application by the name "spyphone" and thus practically illustrated how such rogue applications work. It can look into the last 20 searches in the safari browser, track the data collected from GPS, read emails, send or receive emails etc.

Many iphone applications were pulled out of the online store by Apple since many of them had already started affecting the users. For example, one game called "Aurora feint" keeps the user busy playing, but in the background it uploads all the contacts to a server, which the salesmen use to call up in order to sell their products.

An electric car is an alternative fuel automobile that uses electric motors and motor controllers for propulsion. The pace at which technologists are working round the clock and immense amount of money is being spent on research that is going into perfecting electric vehicles. The first quarter of 2010 will witness a new interesting technology that would prevent the Li-Ion batteries from exploding up or catching fires either in mobile phone or in your laptops, as claimed by its inventor this week. The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan's national research organization, has invented this technology and it is called 'Stoba'.

What draws attention is, the phenomena that actually makes the lithium-ion batteries heated up and explode. When they basically develop internal shorts, they quickly heat up to as much as 500 degrees centigrade (i.e. 932 degrees Fahrenheit) and tend to explode or catch fire. But what 'Stoba' does is, it tries to balance the positive and the negative sides of the battery so that when the battery is heated up till 130 degrees centigrade (266 degrees Fahrenheit), the Stoba gets transformed from a porous material to a film and ultimately suppress the whole reaction.

The new material has been developed for over four years and according to the senior researcher who led the team Mr.Alex Pang, they have finally introduced a totally new material to the battery. He exclaimed that the battery makers in Taiwan are in the testing stage and they have ramped up manufacturing of Stoba-equipped cells to the innumerable people, and the shipping is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2010.

Mr.Pang is awarded for his contribution in Orlando, Florida, has said in a telephonic interview that Stoba will add only 2 percent to 3 percent to the total manufacturing cost. He said that he is on his efforts to take the technology to leading phone and laptop manufacturers around the world. The Sony Corp., Dell Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co, Acer Inc., Apple, Nokia Corp., and many others are already targeted as the potential customers, Mr.Pang said.

The ITRI has already applied for 29 patents in the U.S.,China, Korea, Taiwan and Japan for Stoba. The ITRI itself holds 9,863 patents having 5,800 employees which include 1,112 doctorates. It has created 151 start-ups and spin-offs.

What needs to be understood is that the lithium batteries go through a maximum danger for explosion so much, that the U.S. Transportation Dept. has issued a "hazardous materials" notice. The Government has highlighted that the people are unaware of the danger that lithium batteries carry, while shipping them, more especially in aircrafts, that can result in major catastrophes.

A group called "Control Your Info" (CYI) with its activists has claimed to take over the control of approximately 300 Facebook community groups, in a self-proclamation, to highlight how the online reputations stand at the risk of getting tampered. This group has seized over 289 Facebook groups, expressing that it was easy to intrude into the poorly-protected administrative settings at the Facebook website.

In their blog, they posted at controlyour.info, that it was just one example of the vulnerabilities of the social media network. The CYI has told that its motives were pure as it was more of a take-over than a computer hack of Facebook groups.

These Facebook groups are actually chat places used for social networking service that encourages online socializing of the people with sharing of interests and communication.

The CYI pointed out a major flaw in Facebook Groups saying if the administrator of a group leaves, anybody in his place could join in as a new admin. Therefore, if one has to take control of a Facebook group, all it requires is a quick search on Google, it said. And once the CYI has the charge over these groups as admins, it could have the authority to amend anything on the groups, whether pictures, profiles or settings.

The CYI has already sent messages to the groups of their "hijacked" status along with the justification of this act. They infact, renamed each group with new logo. They also promised to restore the violated groups to their original form. What they want to bring to attention is the concern about online privacy awareness as they said that many people have lost their jobs over Facebook content, and they really wanted to do something about it.

On the other hand, Facebook has proclaimed that there was no hacking done and no confidential information is at risk. It said the owners themselves abandoned the groups, so that made way for the group members to become admins. The groups administrators have no access to private user information plus the group member can leave the group anytime.

After the European regulators formally objected to the plan of take over of the Sun Microsystems Inc. by the Oracle Corporation that is a $7.4 billion sale to the latter,on Tuesday,  the Fitch rating has lowered down its outlook for the Sun Microsystems Inc. from "positive" to "evolving", on Tuesday.

If the deal falls apart, the Fitch is likely to knock down Sun's rating by 2 scores as the company already has a "BBB-" rating which is a one move above non-investment, or "junk" grade.

The Statement of objections that the Sun received on Monday by the European Commission, has clear statements by the Commission, of its concern about the possible harm to the competition in the database market if the Oracle's $7.4 billion takeover becomes successful.

The Commission's formal objection which says that it could finally prevent Oracle Corp. from reaching its proposed acquisition could surely be a bad news for Sun Microsystems Inc., as noted by the Fitch.

The organization has already been struggling, and the uncertainty about the deal, which both the companies had hoped would close this summer, has already wounded Sun, as it has lost its market share to its rivals like IBM Corporation and Hewlett-Packard Co., losing about $120 million, in the most recent quarter, that ended on September 27th. So this depends mostly on how the Sun clears its regulatory tests. And if that is cleared its outlook can return to "positive" rating, added Fitch. The deal has already been cleared in the U.S.

The Sun's stock was stuck below Oracle's $9.50 per share offer on the company. On Monday, it edged up 6 cents to $8.30 in extended sharing as Oracle commented on its willingness to fight to keep the transaction in its current form alive. And on Tuesday, in the afternoon trading, the shares of Sun fell from 7 cents to $8.17.

The Google engineers are always coming up with some new innovation or the other. This time it is called Go, a new programming language built by Google which is a good blend of modern languages and good old-fashioned principles from C and C++. This brand-new language might not surely take over the world but its producers believe it to carve a niche in the development world.

The Google's Go team has reportedly said that they believe programming should be fast, productive and of course fun. And that is the reason they are very excited to open source an experimental language called Go. It combines the development speed of a dynamic language like Python with performance and safety of compiled languages like C and C++. Go seems to let you move fast as the compiled code runs close to the speed of C with even large binaries compile in just a few seconds.

The team also includes two of UNIX's creators, so it does have a good pedigree as well. The Go language is very similar to the popular language C in many aspects. Like C, it also has this multicore processors that power most of the computers today, enable the programs to run multiple tasks parallel. And this surely works well with multicore and multi-processor servers of Google that are deployed in innumerable number all around the world.

They focus on speed, of the compiler and the programs both. Most of the programs run about 20 to 30 percent slower than similar ones written in C or C++ but the compiler is amazingly so fast that it can also be termed as an interpreter language. It is available for 32-bit and 64-bit x86 machines and also for ARM processors, which is widely used for the architecture of the mobile devices.

Though the Go already has a solid foundation built by its creators with usual things plus the modern features like garbage collection, it is still labeled as an experimental language. It is primarily produced as a low-level language for server software, but is very flexible and can be used for web programming too. The Golang.org website set up for the language is set up for Go.

The Associated Press outlined a recent case that has raised concerns over computer viruses being used to plant child pornography on people's computers. But according to experts, it would not cause much harm to the innocent ones.

The AP investigation revealed one such case of Mr.Michael Fiola, a former investigator with the Massachusetts agency whose state-owned computer was found to have illegal child pornography pictures. He was fired, charged with the accusation with which if he had been convicted, it could have landed him in prison for up to 5 years, the AP said.

Although, Mr.Fiola avoided the conviction but he reportedly had faced indignities, disrespect, death threats and abandonment by friends and relatives. But they fought the case that incurred about $250,000 on legal fees. They had to liquidate their savings and sell off their car.

The investigation revealed that the laptop was infected by a virus that was programmed to visit as many as 40 child porn sites per minute that is impossible to be done by human even if he/she tried. The reports also indicated that the anti virus on Mr.Fiola's PC was outdated and could not save him against malware.

Therefore, the investigation also looked for some more cases in this regard in which innocent people are termed as pedophiles after their closed ones or some other people stumble upon child porn placed on a PC through virus.

According to security experts, legal scholars and former prosecutors, it is indeed possible for a malware to plant child pornography, or any other file, on an innocent person's PC, but being possible does not equate to being likely. As according to the forensic experts, the intention can be detected. The investigators can usually make out if an image was intentionally downloaded, based on other activity that took place on the computer at that time.
