Having reached the sale of almost 128 million units through out the world, the Nintendo DSi XL is one of the most widely sold portable products when the gaming handheld devices are concerned. The DSi introduced last year in April has this third version of DS called the DSi XL which is the replica of the DSi first version which has got a plethora of advantages, but this upgrade has simply stressed more on the screen size.

The Nintendo DSi XL weighing 11.08 ounces, has got some kind of attractive sturdiness sporting some glossy top with a polished plastic outer casing that provides more elegant look. With dimensions 6.34x3.6x0.83 inches, the DSi XL looks more like a tiny piece along with its dual 4.2-inch screens which look 93% larger than the screens found in the other versions of the DS i.e. DS Lite and the original DSi, but there is no such difference when the LED lights are concerned. Even the charging, power and Wi-Fi connections are also similar to the previous models of DS.

The new Nintendo DSi XL has got a good large viewing angle making the device more ‘sociable’ with the people, and the buttons of the system have retained the same feel, positions, shapes found in the earlier versions, but require a little pressing motion. The downside of the model is the negligence on the picture front where the 0.3 megapixels still do not give out a good picture quality because of the older pixel resolution of 256x196.

Although the DSi XL has the firmware version 1.4U that contains all the online and the media tools and also the three pre-installed games, the DSi XL model is not that portable as it looks to be. But like the DSi original version, Nintendo DSi XL connects to 802.11b or g Wi-Fi router with ease.

Where the overall performance of the device is concerned, DSi XL has the same 133MHz processor along with the 16MB of RAM, so not much improvement can be assessed here. But the most remarkable feature of XL is the battery life as DSi XL boasts of 13 to 17 hours running time.

So releasing this March end in burgundy or bronze, the DSi XL is relatively priced at $190 which is $20 and $60 more than DSi and DS Lite respectively. So if you really want to have the blurred free gaming experience, then the Nintendo DSi XL is the best option.

Sony dares all gamers with its new version of PSP gaming consoles – The invincible Sony PSP Go white. But, if you already have a Sony PSP gaming console, then you should think twice before buying the new product. Sony PSP Go has its own set of pros and cons, as it appeals to the modern generation with it’s sleek and slim design that is very pocket friendly but not so user friendly. The software of the gaming console is worth praising, as it has been created by a team of expert developers, creating a masterpiece that has come of the state of the art high tech games. It also represents the hall mark graphics and powerful game play that comes with all PSP consoles.

Sony PSP Go white is definitely not worth the $250, even with the aesthetic design and technology. The consumer market is yet to test the several PSP Minis and non gaming applications those are still in the pipeline. But in reality the PSP 3000 that is available at just $170 has stolen the limelight from it’s successor and Sony has to work very hard in its marketing strategies in order to increase the sales figures of Sony PSP Go white.

It definitely needs upgrading in terms of the play station experience and needs all the tiles available with PSP platform in order to make it more attractive than its predecessor. And even if this does not seem to work, Sony should consider bringing down the price of Sony PSP Go white, in order to make it available to the low budget gamers. One would also recommend touch screen functionality in order to make it more appealing. In short, a little upgrade and fine tuning can take the Sony PSP go white to dizzying (gaming) heights?

The Princess and the Frog

The Princess and the Frog movie that takes you to a world of romance and fantasy land may be a blockbuster, but the video game version of the fable falls short of the magic spell. The lackluster presentation is surprisingly enjoyable only with the multiplayer component. The Princess and the Frog games have disappointed the fans who anticipated adventure of the wonderland but are given an entertaining romp through Tiana’s future as a New Orleans restaurateur.

It is a lighthearted journey through the escapades of Tiana as she faces the challenges and brings about improvements to the interior design of her dinning room. The Princess and the Frog games are mainly associated with the later half of the blockbuster film when Tiana is transformed into a frog; and the game dares you with missions that are created beyond the script of the film. The Princess and the Frog games consist of a series of tasks that are rhythmic in nature. One can also try at hand at click and drop errands while designing the interiors of the dining room combined with many other mini games that offer prizes.

There are about 25 games that can be played by multiple players and is aimed at youngsters. The Princess and Frog games also have puzzles for a group of four players, and offer a variety of memory puzzles created on the lines of the famous Junior Krypton style puzzles. The GUI of the game is not as appealing as the characters may appear to be going all tipsy Topsy which is very unlike video games produced by Disney. Many of us have grown up playing some of the most fabulous Disney games that are of the best quality. But it is difficult to believe that a game like the Princess and the Frog belong to the same cult.

The Princess and Frog games have some of the most astounding sound track and music created on the lines of Dixieland Jazz that is very soothing and helps the youngsters to concentrate better on the brainstorming mind games. The game is inundated with controlling issues to the point of broken screens combined with a new set of control keys before each game session that is pretty confusing for the youngsters. Finally, in spite of advertising the game under the famous banner of the Princess and the Frog movie, in order to attain success in the video games arena, the venture can only be enjoyed by youngsters who are fascinated by fairy tales.

The game fails to meet the expectations of the fans as it lacks any of the animated scenes about the background of the Van Halen band and extra free stuff for some of the hardcore fans.

Instead, the Van Halen game is more of a pain in the back of the neck with few Van Halen pictures in the loading part a sheet with lyrics on it, rock arena with some added pop up video trivia. However, the music keeps one hooked to the game as there are a total of 45 tracks from which 25 are Van Halen solos and keeps the experts addicted to the guitar game. The songs are exclusive and ones to die for, as they recreate the magnificent aura of the band. On the flip side, the Van Halen guitar game could of better with more polishing, added extras and a more organized assortment of the song tracks. The bottom line is, for a world renowned Guitarist the game is definitely a show down and low key and needs a makeover.

Is it that tech experts are putting the PSPGo into the bad gadgets or is it really bad??

Well, a little review of it will surely prove that this time the tech experts are right. PSPGO is surely counted amongst the worst devices of the year. It looks like it was a gadget brought out for Christmas in a hurry, by drilling few more holes and putting few more LEDs into it.

And guess what, it costs only $250. What??? its the same price as others!
