nokia7610_SEs700Sony Ericsson S700 and Nokia 7610, a mega comparison of the two megapixel camera phones. Whose are the better photos? Whose are the better camera settings..? Nokia 7610 already coming from the smart phone category is one of most widely used and available phone in the market, where as Sony Ericsson S700 too cannot be underestimated as it also comes from one of the biggest brands around the globe. For the accuracy of the pictures, the pictures were captured with the original form without any amendments. Technology news brings you the analysis between both.

What Nokia 7610 does?

Nokia 7610 does boast of the Megapixel resolution but the settings possibities are barely adequate. You can just select a size of the picture , the quality in 3 levels, activate the night mode and set the self timer. Well, you also have a 4x digital zoom but that falls short of exposure compensation (is used to rectify faults).

What Sony Ericsson S700 does?

This is actually a photographer's phone. The dual conception is very useful as it can be tilted horizontally as well apart from the normal position. The opening lamellas protect the camera lens at the back side of the phone and the lighting diode is used for flash purpose. It is so handy to use as if a small digital camera sliding in your hand with fingers at the proper places to hold the shutter button or to control the exposure compensation.

The settings possibilities is amazing as well in S700. You have all that to have a glimpse- picture size, white color balance, number of pictures left, type of memory, exposure measurement mode, etc.

The Sony Ericsson S700 provides with a varied range of resolutions- 640 x 480, 320 x 240 and 160 x 120, the highest being 1280 x 960 pixels size produced by The 1.3 MP sensor. That is why the pictures in Sony Ericsson S700 are bigger in size compared to Nokia 7610 as 7610 possess the highest resolution of 1152 x 864 pixels. The pictures are stored in internal memory or in Memory Stick card. The pictures can be sent as an MMS or through email, and they can be transferred to the PC via a cable, IrDA or a bluetooth.

In Sony Ericsson S700, the exposure is measured automatically. For that you have either Evaluative metering (the whole picture) or the Spot mode (measures only the center portion of the scene). The white balance is either automatic or preset (sunny, cloudy, bulb or fluorescent). Then a night mode too is available. Consequently you have ornamental frames and different effects for menu, sequential shooting (for continous drive), etc. Moreover, Sony Ericsson S700 also records the pictures' parameters to the EXIF header of the JPG files. With this, you can allot the time, date, exposure time and compensation, aperture, ISO, etc. The ISO sensitivity and the shutter speed regulate the exposure of the photos.

Pictures' comparison

On the left side you can view the photos taken by Nokia 7610 and on the right side you have the photos taken by Sony Ericsson S700. The resolution has been reduced to 800 x 600 pixels as the megapixel files are huge in size of about over 200 kB.

The colors in the Sony Ericsson S700 are more accurate than Nokia 7610 which is not able to maintain the white color balance as such. The dark space need to be brighter in both of them.

Pictures against the light

Sony Ericsson S700 can maintain the positive exposure compensation where as the Nokia 7610 doesnot adjust the exposure.

If you take an example for spot metering, then the Sony Ericsson is very easily able to maintain that, well because of its ability to maintain the positive exposure compensation where as in Nokia 7610, you can see the picture dark probably because of its inability in the same arena.

There is overall sharpness in the images taken by Sony Ericsson S700 as the EXIF sources the spot metering and is the reason for more bright exposure.

Then Nokia 7610 again faces problem for the white color balance as mentioned earlier.

Sony Ericsson takes 1/17 the exposure time, because of which one can see blurredness for the moving objects. Otherwise the contrast in S700 is sharp.

Now whom can we rate as the better one..?

With all the possibilities considering different parameters, it is more visibly the Sony Ericsson S700 with its higher resolution, settings possibilities and the overall pictures' bright and sharp look make the S700 camera phone more user-friendly, to vote for. Sony Ericsson S700 surely stands as a classic phone above the most competitive camera phones in the market.

Pictures in full resolution

Earlier the pictures were reduced to  800 x 600 pixels but of course with the originality in contact, now you can find the pictures in full resolution for both the Nokia 7610 and Sony Ericsson S700 on the left and the right side, respectively.
