chargerThere were times when we had to struggle to find the charger which fits our handset. But not anymore as the European Commission announced that most of the leading mobile phone makes have come together with the agreement to adopt the microUSB port as a standard European charger socket.

With this, people can use one charger to all the handsets available in the house. This might as well end in fights among the house members as to who will use the charger first. Just kidding!!

At the time of recession this can be another way to save money which goes on unwanted phone accessories. It is determined that approximately 4,000 tons of accessories are thrown away by users each year, as they change their phones and the unwanted accessories are no longer in use because of their incompatibility.

Most of the major companies like Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola, RIM, etc have signed the agreement and have already started producing microUSB compatible devices whereas the others like Apple and Sony Ericsson will soon follow the band wagon in the beginning of next year. As of now this is applicable only in the European market. Hope to see the change soon in the US market as well.

    Finally! A standard! LOL!
I won’t buy a cell phone unless it has a mini USB to USB cable. If you’re a tech guy, then you know mini portable hard drives use the same plugs, as well as my USB Gigapanel on my CD deck and mobile MP3 player

USB to Mini USB should be the standard for all phones. Even apple and some of the other major PDA phones use a mini USB cable to transfer data and charging. Hard drives, cameras, and other peripherals can use the same plug if USB cables became more of a standard.
