The big news is that the successor of Nokia N97 is on its way and one of our sources at Nokia has recently hinted us on the details from the worldwide launch targets to the hardware specifications.

Without wasting the time further, let’s look into the Nokia’s next tablet device which is made with the same frame of mind as their N810 although even more polished. It appears as if the new piece did not get any name as of now but it is internally referred to as “N900”, “Rover”, or “Maemo Flagship”. Let’s refer this device as N900 for the rest of the post, though it’s quite possible that this name might change.

The N900 is more or less similar to the Nokia N97 and has a 3.5” touchscreen above a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and many of the same design features. The screen resolution of the N900 is significantly higher than the N97 which is 800x480 when compared to 360×640 of N97 and unlike N97 it does not tilt up. In addition to it the N900 does not appear to feature the navi-keys found on the slide-out layer of the N97 and not to forget it runs Maemo rather than S60.

Let’s find out in more detail about the hardware specifications

• Firstly in the box you will find connectivity cable, headset, charger, battery (1320 mAh), Video-out cable, microUSB adaptor and a cleaning cloth
• N900 has GPS along with an accelerometer
• N900 is 59.7mmx111mmx18.2mm in dimensions and weighs around 180g.
• It has 3.5? display and 800×480 WVGA touchscreen
• OMAP3430 500/600 Mhz processor (Fun Trivia: Same CPU as the Palm Pre)
• GSM Quad-Band 850, 900, 1800, 1900 and WCDMA 900, 1700/2100, 2100
• 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with dual-LED flash, autofocus, and sliding cover
• 1GB total virtual runtime memory (256MB physical RAM, 768MB virtual memory)
• Wi-Fi, HSPA
• 32GB internal storage along with an expandable external memory of up to 48GB
• Keyboard variants: English, Scandinavian, French, German, South European, Italian, Russia

While at the software front the features are:

• It runs on Maemo 5.
• It is multitasking and has the ability to run all your favorite applications simultaneously
• Live Dashboard allows you to open all the tasks and the unread messages in one view.
• It has Firefox 3 with support for Flash 9.4
• Automatic software update is built in with the device
• Contacts allow you to share your status, location and mood. It also supports contacts on Ovi and Google Talk
• SMS and IMs can be accessible from one view
• It supports both the cellular voice as well as the VOIP
• Captures video at 800×480 in AVC/H.264, Image tagging and geo-tagging support also exists
• Nokia intends to have at least a dozen add-on apps available at launch, including a game called “Bounce”, a Jaiku/Twitter app called “Mauku”, and a few gizmos.

Target launch dates, as of the beginning of this year:

• T-Mobile International: July 2009
• T-Mobile USA: August/September 2009
• Middle East, Asia, South-East Asian Pacific: July 2009
• Europe: October 2009

Though these are the expected dates but we have heard that a number of rumblings that the device would see delays.
Well, we have almost covered everything except for the price and the final name. they might not go with N900 after all. We will keep you posted on this.
