Nokia E61 is one of the most successful smart phones that nokia has ever released. However, the missing camera in it was a point of concern for many people and that formed the largest topic of feedback to Nokia.
With all the hues and cries, Nokia finally decided to upgrade this model by incorporating all the missing elements and hence launched the new model by just adding "i" in its name. Its the all new Nokia E61i.
To start with, the key features are Rich connectivity options - UMTS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, Infrared, Outstanding battery life, 2 megapixel camera, Messenger form factor with a full QWERTY keyboard, Really large 2.8” TFT display, Solid, metallic body, Symbian OS 9.1 S60 3rd Edition UI, microSD memory card slot.
Disadvantages: Hefty weight,No HSDPA support, No secondary camera for video calls, S60 UI doesn’t come with Feature Pack 1
Having seen the advantages and disadvantages on broader scale, lets get into the details of this phone. Nokia E61i is much slimmer than the Nokia E61 by about 11cc. The processor of E61i is much stabler and reliable than E61.
There are few changes made to the keyboard. The joystick is replaced with a D pad which is a good change. Two new shortcuts have been added, one to phone book and another to My own key, which is used to start application of your liking. The ergonomics of the Qwerty keyboard has improved drastically.
The E61i would come with many preloaded applications which were missing in earlier version like search application, Team suite and Wlan wizard. This new version from nokia has a better internet calling settings and a brand new messenger coming along with 2 mega pixel camera. The design pretty same and dimensions are also identical at 117 x 70 x 13.9 mm with weight 150 g. The 2 MP camera has a smooth zoom option.
There is volume control, loudspeaker and voice key on the left side. Recording starts on just one press and longer press takes you to voice command interface. This is something Nokia dint think of as such buttons can get pressed in the pocket accidentally.
There is charge port, data cable port along with infrared port at the bottom. Only the latest chargers jack can fit in it (the thin jack). The battery used is Nokia BP-4L Li-Polymer with a capacity of 1500 mAh and power for 400 h in standby, and for up to 9 h of talk time in GSM-only networks.
The reception of this phone is flawless. The ring tone is also loud enough to hear in crowded place. The speaker is also very good and satisfies the business needs. Nokia E61i runs on the 3rd edition of Series 60 UI. The speed is pretty fast and response of the OS is good. This model has a internal memory of 60 MB and also has option to expand it.
The display is about 2.8 inches, which is pretty big in size. It gives 16M color TFT display with QVGA at 320x240 pixels. There is also voice recognition system that can be used to both start an application as well as dial.
All in all, a great business smart phone. But is it worth dumping your present E61 and get this one? Well not really.

Nice review about Nokia E61i. I love this mobile phone very much, and you write a good review about it. But does this phone equiped with internal GPS? It will be truly excellent if it does.
