With online banking catching up with people, more and more security threats are being reported throughout the world. The ease of simply getting online and completing your transactions through internet banking makes life all the more easy. However, this system has its own security flaws that may prove fatal if not addressed on time.
Many steps are being taken by banks throughout the world to secure online banking. Implementation of each new technique brings out several different ways to abuse the process. Hackers are busy mendling with these secure networks and somehow tend to break it, now or later.
In the process of developing a much better environment for secure internet banking, IBM presented its proposed vision of coming up with a device that would by pass the users pc controls and complete the online banking process easily.
The device that they are coming up with looks like a USB stick which has a display and smartcard slot which can be connected to any computer. Once connected, this usb device would enable online banking by simply ignoring the pc, thus leaving no trace of transactions or information on pc. That means even if there is a virus present in the computer, it cannot cause any harm to the users online banking process.
The cure for online banking problem is known as Zone Trusted Information Channel, and it works by running the Transport Layer Security/Secure Sockets Layer (TLS/SSL) protocol, including TLS engine and a networking proxy. Thus, no virus can intercept any data on the host pc, which means even if the pc is heavily infected, it really doesn't matter.
This usb device has it own advantages. With it you do not have to worry about any online transmissions and can be easily done through simply any pc. This device is based on latest security protocols which means it would be compatible with all major OS. Soon this device would be put on trial with some major banks. If this gadget proves itself, it can easily bring a huge revolution in the field of online banking.

not convinced with USB stuff security. Handling such a tiny smart cards is a task.
I think this is the way to go. Some people are too careless when it comes to security so the banks need to do something. My bank has recently introduced a card reader (looks like a small calculator) that you need to put your bank card in, enter your pin and then use the number generated to log in. It’s a complete pain and the device is too bulky to carry around all the time. Looks like this would be much easier and quicker.
I think this is getting more common now days. We get apps that does not require any installer and it can be installed and launched from a USB flash drive. This makes it ideal for surfing at public computers.
I just know about it. I often use internet banking and will use this way.
well its good that there will be no effect of the pc on our transaction but keeping a usb stick is a task.
yes its good that there will be no effect of the pc because doing any transaction work from public cafes is dangerous.
