The configuration comes with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P9500 (2.53GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 6MB L2 cache), NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete, video memory, 15.4" WSXGA Matte Display (1680 x 1050 max. resolution), Genuine Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) SP1, 4GB (4096MB) DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 x 2048MB modules), 250GB 7200rpm Serial ATA hard drive, 8x Multi-Format Dual Layer DVDRW, Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Web Cam, 6-cell 10.8v 4800mAh battery, 90w power supply, and 3-Year Warranty.
The quality of the built is high and above the normal laptop computers. The finish silver on black background looks sleek. The multimedia buttons are mounted on the top plastic and are very sensitive to touch. Only the power button is hard to press. The lid of this notebook is also a little difficult to open as you require to put your fingers between and pull hard.
The finger prints get stuck on the aluminum surface easily. The display is a WSXGA+ matte, which is soothing on the eyes, but not the brightest display. When viewed from different angles, the view is much better than average. Even the horizontal view remains intact irrespective of how far you go to the corner. The colors are vibrant and clear and doesn't cause sparkle when surfing a website with white background.
The size of the screen is 15.4". It has a full layout keyboard which is rarely found in models of this category. The typing however isn't too comfortable since huge variation has been brought in to incorporate full keyboard layout. The right shift key is the size of an alphabet key. The "." and "/" are very tiny and really to to click. Honestly, we conclude that people who type a lot, this model doesn't suit you.
When it comes to performance, this notebook excels over other laptop computers. It has a Intel P9500 Core 2 Duo processor and NVIDIA 9600M GT graphics card which pretty well handles all the latest games. Portal easily pushed 90-130FPS at the full 1680x1050 native resolution of the display. Synthetic benchmark scores backed up our real life findings, also producing very good scores. Crysis while being a much higher tasking games topped out at 29FPS on medium settings at 1280x800 resolution. The Seagate Hard drive at 7200.3 is pretty fast in loading from the time of shut off to complete start.
The Multimedia speakers on MS-1651 has good volume levels and can easily satisfy a music or movie freak. However, there is more to be desired in this category. Speakers have been placed just close to the hinges of the screen. With headset on, audio performance is awesome.
The Input and output ports include ExpressCard/54, VGA and HDMI, E-SATA/USB Combo : 1, USB 2.0 : 2, IEEE 1394 : 1, Line-In, Line-Out, Mic, Headphone, Modem, LAN. The battery consists of 6 cell 52 WHR giving a 2 hours and 15 minutes of vista usage. Ofcourse with optimized settings. We were satisfied with the backup.
To conclude, MSI MS 1651 is an awesome notebook and surely excels out of the many laptop computers found in the market. An ideal notebook for gaming and multimedia purposes.
